The handover

The finished product: a broad wooden rectangular frame with the "Culfin birds" screen displaying the slightly grumpy looking Culfin Cuckoo
The Culfin Cuckoo is not impressed
There's something sleeping in my breast
That 'wakens only in the West
There's something in the core of Me
That needs the West to set it free

The hope was to get the Culfin Birds station up and running in situ before the subject's birthday. Close enough. This way we at least got to hand over the physical object – made by our friends at wedge.ie, the box is a beautiful build of Irish ash.

The project is very much a memoriam to our dad and his love for the area and for birdlife. In the midst of an ecological desert we have a rare copse of trees where the cuckoo comes every year.

We hope to share something of this unique part of the world in all its joyous diversity.

When you see a dog eating grass its the sign of bad weather. when you see a blue light on in the finre its the sign of bad weather. When its red in the west it is the sign of good weather. when the divers are in beside the strand its the sign of bad weather. Friday is always again the weather. When the seal is up in the water its the sign of bad weather. When its red it east it is the the sign of bad weather. When the clouds are moveing fast it is the sign of bad weather. When their is a high tide its the sign of bad weather. When their is a cap on Letterhill its the sign of bad weather.

Connecting to and with duchas.ie has been such a joy, every day I'm thrilled to discover another charming, earnest fragment of this incredible inter-generational collaboration.

A bit of minicomputer circuitry; the main visible board has a cool monochrome etching of a grey seal
Inky Ink & Raspberry Pi

Faffing around with the hardware and the tech has been a bit of fun but that can have another day.

The wooden-framed bird station display, as above, showing an image of a robin (spideog) with some text. There is a bit of PVC piping with a wire in it that houses the microphone
Station: display and mic housing

And while we have been recording using the mic for a while now, how will it manage out in the windswept wesht?

All remains to be seen.

In the meantime: bréithlá shona, a Choilm:
